Linksys wireless-ac wifi 5ghz universal media connector wumc710

This appears to be in place in the event a firmware update causes a brick scenario. I prefer this configuration as I will always know what IP the bridge has without having to go through my DHCP lease table in the router. This is important to me because I have seen wireless bridges in the past require entering SSID, security type, and passphrase manually. This issue was addressed in version 1. As a side note, the backup configuration file name changes from Cisco to Linksys between versions 1.

Because of this, you cannot use a backup of your configuration after updating to the newest firmware, so I recommend updating firmware before any fine tuning of your settings. I was able to, sporadically, see speeds that exceeded the Mbps limit of non AC routers.

However, I found my speeds were more consistent with my N This is a reflection of my N being one of the top of the line models when it released and my AC router, quite frankly, not. I do also want to say that I received higher throughput with the bridge standing vertically than I did laying it flat on either side, so it is intended to be stood up. If you have any wired devices that are only Mbps you can get higher throughput with this AC bridge, however I would not recommend it over a wired network.

This is especially important to all of us gamers out there. During the 10 days I spent testing I did not encounter a single disconnect from my network.

I have to honestly say I am impressed by the performance of this device and would not hesitate to recommend it to others. Pros: 5ghz which helps negate common noise issues in the 2. Seems to have a good radio, the unit gets better signal and speeds than most my other Unlike most standard access points this unit has a 4 port gigabit switch built in which works well. It turns on and connects pretty quickly and I get my full internet bandwidth on devices that otherwise only support Cons: Web interface is very slow to respond, when it does I installed the firmware update which gives some more details on the wireless connection.

But it didn't seem to do anything about the incredibly slow response rate while trying to configure settings. Thankfully there are not too many settings that need to be made. Overall Review: If you have a lot of wireless devices or some older ones that can be cabled this is a great solution!

I recently used this in a location where I can see over 40 wireless networks, this is a seriously high noise area for the 2. This unit allowed me to connect to my router using 5ghz and then cable out to my xbox and bluray player.

The connections hold much stronger and are quite a bit faster as well. It is worth making the extra note that this unit is 5ghz, it is NOT dual band and will not connect to a 2. Since getting it connected to the wireless I can't seem to be able to open the web interface however it's still my direct gateway so I'm uncertain what is going on there.

Once reset I can get back in, I'm uncertain if simply removing the wireless connection will fix the issue. I would be fairly certain a firmware update in the future could repair this minor annoyance. So far nothing has had a hiccup and the unit is working great! Pros: - Great range for 5Ghz. This is much further then what I personally need, but it's nice to know I can place this almost anywhere in the house without coverage issues.

Netflix was smooth and the occasional buffering was gone. However once you read the cons below I think you'll see why; more specifically the first con. Cons: - When I first received this unit for testing, once a day I would lose connectivity requiring a reboot of the bridge. A quick search around the web showed this seems to be a common issue. Though some seem to experience more often than others ie, several times a day while a handful seem to be ok.

After a few days of trouble-shooting I finally assigned a static IP and it's been about 5 days with no drops. A little further research around a few forums showed that this seems to be a fix in the interim for other users as well until a firmware update addresses whatever is causing this bug. Which leads me to the next con From what I see there's been one; it adds only a few very minor features and nothing that addresses the connectivity issue contributing the lower ratings the WUMC is receiving.

Forgive my inner geek for this next con, but the irony of it was worth mentioning: - WiFi Protected Setup on this "Linksys" bridge would not function with my "Linksys" router, but it did on two other non-Linksys routers. Let that one settle in for a minute. Despite all efforts, in order to work with my Linksys router I had to connect via a LAN port, find the IP it obtained from my router, then connect to the bridge and enter my wireless network info manually.

Granted one is more important than the other but I would like the option to at least provide a username for that added bit of security to something connected to my home network.

Overall Review: I'll make this very clear that the only thing keeping this device from a 5 out of 5 is the connectivity issue despite the fact I'm no longer affected by it.

If I could give it a 3. While I understand it's a minor inconvenience in the grander scheme of things there's no reason for it in a product that was released well over a year ago. The WUMC is a great alternative to running cables through your house and should you decide to go with it please make sure the first thing you do when setting it up is assign a static IP address. The address you're going to have to use will vary depending on the brand router so if you're unfamiliar with how to do this you may need to call that 'techy' friend or family member for help, but once you're finally up and running I think you'll be happy with what you get!
